Shanghai Maritime University – located in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone – was recently selected as one of the fourth batch in the country of Technology and Innovation Support Centers, or TISCs, according to local officials.

They said the TISC program was initiated by the World Intellectual Property Organization, or the WIPO.

The program in China is being jointly promoted by WIPO and China National Intellectual Property Administration, aiming to help Chinese intellectual property  and innovation users to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect and manage their IP rights.

Shanghai Maritime University is one of the earliest universities to develop patent information services in China.

In recent years, the university has made continuous efforts to provide patent knowledge training, patent information retrieval, patent analysis and consulting services for its scientific researchers and college students.

It has provided a large number of services such as IP publicity and training, patent technology monitoring and patent retrievals, to government and industry users.

Officials said the university's selection in the TISC program was of great significance to help it improve its ability to offer IP services and increase its levels of IP services – to better help researchers, students, as well as government and industry users.
